However, excessive thread counts mean little if the fibers used are of low quality. Extra long staple cotton for beddings is best to maintain the durability of cotton fabrics. This ensures cotton bed sheets will not fray, wrinkle or pill easily after a few tumbles in the wash.
If you compare linen vs cotton sheets in terms of breathability, another major difference emerges — linen will keep you much cooler at night because of its longer fibers and, therefore, looser weave. Air can pass through linen more easily, keeping your body cool. Cotton, as previously discussed, can also be perfect for warm sleepers (in the case of percale bedding), but linen definitely has the edge over it.
Percale sheets (pronounced “per-kail”) are made with cotton. These have a plain weave — one yarn over, one yarn under — that creates a matte, crisp finish. These sheets get softer with each wash and are best for hot sleepers and warm weather. They aren’t wrinkle-resistant, so it’s best to remove them from the dryer immediately following the end of the cycle.
Great sheets are determined by the quality of the fabric, the weave and the thread count in cotton or GSM in linen or Momme in silk. A high measurement won’t make up for poor quality fabric but it can go a long way to contributing to fantastic bedding.
These are comparable to type R and RST, except the outer case does not have a metal reinforcement ring. To compensate, the outside is not made of normal rubber, but a hard, heavy-duty rubber fabric. The advantage is that these types can be made in a split version. They are almost always produced to order, and made of NBR or FKM.

Temperature - Just like pressure, the temperature that your oil seal will be operating in must be known so that you can choose one that can withstand the heat or cold. PTFE have the widest range of temperature, making them useful for machines who can see usage in extreme weather or elements.
As can be seen from the seal cross-section shown in Fig. 14.2, shaft seals are complex shapes that require advanced mold design and molding techniques (see Section 7.3 for discussion of fluoroelastomer molding). For some time, most shaft seals were made in the United States by compression molding. Injection molding of shaft seals is prevalent in Europe, and is being used increasingly in the United States. An advantage of compression molding is that preforms (usually rings cut from extruded tubing) are used that closely approximate the amount of stock required for the final parts, so compound waste is minimized. For injection molding, the amount of cured stock in the central sprue and runner (actually a thin sheet leading to the seal lip) is often large compared to the stock required for the final part, so the waste of high-cost fluoroelastomer may be high. Such waste is reduced in modern injection molding designs.
Leather is probably the oldest of the lip materials still in common use, but the move towards mass production methods has seen a massive increase in the development of synthetic rubbers which lend themselves to accurate and repeatable injection and compression moulding. Nitrile (NBR) is still by far the most common elastomer for “normal” use, whilst Viton® (FKM/FPM) is rapidly replacing Polyacrylate (ACM) and Silicone (VMQ) for high-temperature applications. Viton® also has high resistance to abrasion and chemical attack making it a preferred elastomer. Recent developments in the use of PTFE for Rotary shaft seals has caused widespread interest particularly for high-speed shaft rotation or poor lubrication applications.
